About HomeownerPedia
A free reference for US homeowners facing the big money decisions about a home.
What we do
Selling a house in a hurry, a jump in your insurance bill, a timeshare you regret, a solar contract that doesn't match the pitch: these are expensive moments, and most of the information online is written by companies that want to sell you something. HomeownerPedia explains your options in plain language so you can compare them with a clear head.
How we're paid
Our guides are free. Some pages include a "next step" box that links to a partner, such as a home buying service, an insurance quote service or a contract review company. If you use that link, the partner may pay us a referral fee. You never pay us anything, and the partner's fee does not change what our guides say.
We are not a law firm, real estate brokerage, lender or insurance agency. We don't provide or control partners' services, prices or results, and results are never guaranteed. Ask any company you talk to about its fees and terms before you sign anything.
Editorial standards
- We write in plain language for homeowners, not for the industry.
- We don't promise outcomes. Where money is involved, we say what you may potentially get, not what you will get.
- We don't publish testimonials, success rates or made-up numbers.
- We don't rank companies against each other in our guides, and we don't accuse any company of wrongdoing. When a page offers a partner, it says so and says that they pay us.
- We say where state law or your own contract may change the answer.
- We update guides when the rules or the facts change, and show the date on every page.
